Even if you have been smoking weed for a very long time, you have probably made some of the below weed mistakes that we will be mentioning here. Every smoker, whether beginner or professional, can learn a thing or two from this article.

We think that there is no better time to be a cannabis lover than the present. Malta has taken a softer approach towards using cannabis on recreational use, albeit some legal issues are still unclear. However, even with cannabis culture getting more and more popular, misinformation surrounding weed and its use is still in full swing.

With this in mind, we’re here to highlight the major mistakes that weed smokers make. Some of these are more prevalent with beginners while others are relevant to cannabis users of all experience levels. Our mission is to provide you with the best tips to make your smoking journey a highly successful one!

Smoking and Eating Cannabis is not the same

A very common mistake, especially if you’re still a beginner. You will be surprised at how many people think that smoking and eating weed will bring you the same effects. The truth is the way that you digest cannabis changes its effects of it significantly. While smoking weed delivers THC into the bloodstream through the alveoli of the lungs, eating edibles will take longer to hit but when it does, the effect is more potent by comparison.

Why is this? THC must first travel through the digestive system and liver before it reaches systemic circulation. While this is occurring, THC is changed into 11-hydroxy-THC, a more powerful metabolite of THC.

So, no…smoking weed, and edibles are definitely not the same!

Be mindful of what weed you are smoking

Cannabis strains have descriptions for a reason. Although they are not always 100% accurate as strain effects heavily depend on the individual smoking them, these will give you a general idea of what you can expect.

Knowing the general composition of different strains can help you find the ones that will give you a positive experience and avoid the ones that might give you a negative effect. Regardless of your preferences, it will pay off to know what you are smoking.

Underestimating the ‘high’ effect

A lot of people will downplay the effects of weed. This is a myth in the cannabis community that smokers will not get high the first time they try marijuana. While there are reasons why someone will not get as high during their first trial (not inhaling deep into the lungs, for example), there is still a great chance that you will get stoned!

Do not overdo your first smoking session. Proceed with care and take it one hit at a time to avoid discomfort.

Do not mix weed and alcohol

While there is this common misconception that marijuana is a gateway to harder drugs, this couldn’t be further from the truth. However, alcohol might be! Alcohol will lower inhibitions and make you feel good, paving the way to trying bigger things.

Studies suggest that combining weed and alcohol will potentially increase the existing THC levels in your body. While the combination is not lethal, it might get uncomfortable and dangerous.

Expecting magic

Smoking cannabis is not a miracle worker! Weed is often looked upon as a magical substance. This makes the initial experience, for some, rather underwhelming or overpowering, which might create a terrible first impression.

Just like with every first experience in life, approach it cautiously and slowly. Be in the moment and enjoy. However, do not expect an instant cure for insomnia, anxiety, or depression because as wonderful as cannabis is, it’s just not how it works!

Conclusion

Everybody makes mistakes…and there are more mistakes where these came from (watch out for Part 2 in this series!). Hopefully, with the help of these articles, your cannabis journey will be more fruitful as the months roll by.

Storytelling is my jam; whether it's through words, visuals or pottery, passing on an important or educational message through any medium is where it's at for me. When not writing a ToDo list with the never-ending tasks this scatterbrain has to get to, you'll probably find me with a weight in my hand or getting messy with some clay. Downtime is writing time which includes anything from facts to fiction. Find me typing away hidden under a whole lot of greenery with some green in my hand.
